"Iron Man 3" is a 2013 superhero movie directed by Shane Black and starring Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark / Iron Man. The movie is the third installment in the "Iron Man" franchise and the seventh movie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
The movie takes place after the events of "The Avengers" and finds Tony struggling with the aftermath of the battle of New York. He is suffering from panic attacks and nightmares and is obsessed with building new suits to protect himself and those he loves. Meanwhile, a terrorist known as the Mandarin (Ben Kingsley) has emerged and is carrying out a series of bombings across the United States.
When Tony's friend and former bodyguard Happy Hogan (Jon Favreau) is injured in one of the bombings, Tony challenges the Mandarin and declares him his next target. However, Tony soon discovers that the Mandarin is not who he appears to be, and that a greater threat is looming in the form of Aldrich Killian (Guy Pearce), a brilliant scientist with a personal vendetta against Tony.
As Tony faces off against the Mandarin and Killian, he is forced to confront his own vulnerabilities and fears, and to rely on his own ingenuity and resourcefulness to save the day. He is aided by his girlfriend Pepper Potts (Gwyneth Paltrow) and his friend Colonel James Rhodes / War Machine (Don Cheadle), as well as a young boy named Harley Keener (Ty Simpkins) who helps him repair his suit.
"Iron Man 3" is a thrilling and action-packed movie that also explores deeper themes of trauma, identity, and redemption. The movie features some impressive special effects and set pieces, including a climactic battle involving dozens of Iron Man suits.
